PARKLAWN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

Help Fairfax County Police reduce criminal activity!  LOCK IT before you leave!  Click here for details.

Our History

Parklawn/Barcroft Terrace’s first  Neighborhood Watch meeting was held in November, 1982 because of serious crimes in our area.  From 1979 to 1982, one home out of every four had reported a burglary, larceny, vandalism or tampering with an auto.  A rape had been committed and several autos stolen.  Our burglary rate was 40 per year.  No one walked or jogged at night.

Our patrols began with about 45 people volunteering several times each month.  Participation in the program increased to the point that patrollers went out one evening of their choice every sixth week. Burglaries dropped to 2-3 a year and many residents began to walk or jog again in the evening.

The volunteers of Neighborhood Watch have been a significant factor in keeping the crime rate in our neighborhood low. The original members have served our neighborhood faithfully and well for two decades and helped make our neighborhood a safe place to live. To keep the Neighborhood Watch alive, we need volunteers!

Everyone can find time to keep our neighborhood safe.  Working together, we can all help to “take a bite out of crime.”
